New charges are to be brought against two men charged with raping a woman in the car-park of Ceannt railway station in Galway.
A 27-year-old man and his 25-year-old co-accused appeared separately via video-link at Galway District Court.
Each man is charged with the rape of a female on August 1 at Ceannt Railway Station car-park, contrary to section 48 of the Offences Against The Person Act and section 2 (1) of the Criminal Law Rape Amendment Act 1981, as amended by section 21 of the Criminal Law Rape Amendment Act 1990.
The men are also charged with falsely imprisoning the same alleged victim on the same date and at the same location, an offence contrary to section 15 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act.
The older man is also charged with rape, under section 4, of the same alleged victim, on August 1 at Ceannt Railway Station car-park.
That alleged offence is contrary to section 4 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Amendment Act 1990.
The case is subject to reporting restrictions.
At Galway District Court, Sergeant Damien Prendergast said directions were received late last week from the DPP and new charges are to be put to both defendants.
He asked that both men be produced in person at Galway District Court on September 23.
Defence barrister Donal Cronin (instructed by solicitor Sarah Ryan) said he was aware of the State's application and confirmed to Judge Fiona Lydon that the High Court recently refused bail applications for both men.
The pair were previously refused bail at Galway District Court at their first court appearance in August.
Through the interpreter, the 25-year-old man asked what the new charges relate to.
Sgt Prendergast explained they relate to an alleged incident on August 1 at the railway station in Galway.
Judge Lydon remanded both men in custody to appear in court on September 23.
