Galway County Council has reported savings and efficiencies of 5 point 25 million euro in the 12 month period ending March 31st 2012.

However, the Council admits that the savings have had a negative impact on its capacity to deliver certain services.

Large savings were made by cutting staff by 25 per cent, and reducing the Revenue Budget for County Council from 160 million euro to 136 million in 2012.

Almost 4 hundred thousand euro was also saved in energy usage due to the installation of energy efficient pumps and active management of tariffs schedules.

County Manager Martina Moloney says everything had to be looked at to create the savings and effeciencies
