Galway County Council has moved to defend its planning record following the recent publication of a report by An Taisce.

The council is one of nine local authorities to be given a grade "F" in the report into its record of planning decisions and environmental policy.

The study measured decision making by councils, over-zoning and oversupply, protection of water quality and development sprawl.

The heritage body has since admitted it was flawed.

In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the council says it's satisfied with the integrity of its system which, it says, is operated in a competent, professional and ethical manner.
