COUNCIL TO DECIDE ON DISPOSAL OF WHALE IN CONNEMARA

Date Published: 03-Jan-2012
Galway County Council staff are expected to make a decision today [3/1] on the disposal of a 40-foot sperm whale that died after becoming beached in Connemara.
The whale, the world's largest predator, was discovered washed up on Omey Island on the 27th of December.
The teeth of the whale were removed under cover of darkness in the run up to New Years Eve.
It's understood it would be hard to burn the carcass of the whale because of environmental concerns and there may not be enough depth on the beach at Omey to bury it.
