Council engineers will travel to Inis Oírr next week in an effort to solve the ongoing problem of water shortages on the Island. (21/09)

Islanders have been forced to restrict their water use for several weeks now, and are unable to drink the tap water for two weeks because of salt contamination.A lack of rainfall on the island has left reservoirs at critically low levels, a common problem every year.

A new source of water is being used to fill the reservoir, however Galway county council will continue to deliver bottled water until the supply is fully restored.

Councillor Sean Ó Tuairisg says the Island co-op is considering several ways of solving the water crisis
