Concern over proposed traffic calming measures at city junction
Galway Bay fm newsroom - Proposals to install traffic calming measures at around 18 areas of the city will be brought before a meeting of the city council this evening.
Areas include the Clybaun road in Knocknacarra, the Rahoon road, Friars Hill, Sceilg Ard on the Headford road and the Ballyloughane road in Renmore.
Meanwhile, the Galway cycling campaign is raising concern over one of the proposals concerning the Fr.Griffin road, a key junction in lower Salthill.
The plan is to convert the one way section of Fairhill opposite the fire station to two way use to allow cars turn into this section from Fr. Griffin road.
The organisation claims installing dedicated right-turn lanes will have the effect of pushing traffic queues into the edge of the road blocking out cyclists.
Chairman of the Galway cycling campaign, Oisín Ó Nidh says the changes could have a negative effect for road users.
