COMPENSATION OR PRISON FOR CITY MUGGINGS

A 19-year-old man has been ordered to pay 1,000 compensation to two young boys he mugged in the city last year or else serve an 8-month prison sentence.
Judge Mary Fahy told Michael Lawrence, of 96 Monivea Park, Ballybane and 69 Riverdale, Oranmore that he was also to undergo addiction counselling before the matter is reviewed in a month's time.
Defence solicitor, Olivia Traynor told the court Lawrence’s uncle and brother had done everything possible to help her client but he had refused to date to undergo addiction counselling.
Judge Mary Fahy imposed sentences totalling 8 months in prison on Lawrence.
However, the judge said that she might defer the sentence if Lawrence’s family paid a thousand euro in compensation to the two young victims and he was to undergo addiction counselling in the next month.
