Eileen Gibbons and Helen Gregg, otherwise known as Electric Bridget, have been producing comedy together for 10 years, with previous shows including Curl Up & Dye, An Awful Savage Thing, The Prince of Denmark, Waiting For Elvis and The Grippe Girls. Their comedy is black in hue but gentle, focusing on the peculiarities of what it is to be human and the ridiculousness of being alive.
As well as writing and performing their own scripts, the pair have worked widely in improvisation: both on the street, in parade and spectacle and at corporate events and parties. Their favourite thing is to interact with an audience, improvise on feedback and make people laugh. With this is mind, they now turn to their newest venture, Chat Show.
This is not a play per se, as there is no script, but they promise it will be funny. Chat Show will see Helen and Eileen bring their improvisational comic skills to a sit-down theatre audience. And as the title suggests, this is a show where people chat. Helen and Eileen will be chatting to each other and chatting to the audience. The audience might chat back.
They might even start chatting to each other – anything could happen. The audience can decide the topics, as. Electric Bridget are keen for people to inform the show’s shape. Each night they will be inviting ideas from the public and these can be as frivolous or serious as you like. Bring your topics for discussion along to Chat Show and Electric Bridget will sort it all out for you.
Those who prefer can sit back and watch as Eileen and Helen discuss topics and resolve issues If you have particular topics in mind, there will be an opportunity on the night to offer them up for discussion. Or get in early and post your ideas to the Electric Bridget facebook page or email [email protected] The show runs at Nun’s Island Theatre from Monday July 18 to Saturday 23 at 10pm nightly.
Tickets cost €14/12, from The Town Hall Theatre box office on 091 569777 and at tht.ie More information about Chat Show and the other shows in Galway Loves Theatre at www.galwaylovestheatre.com
