CLLR SLAMS COUNCIL RESPONSE TO TRAFFIC GRIDLOCK

Date Published: 29-Aug-2011
A city councillor says today's meeting between city officials and the Garda to discuss the city's latest traffic problems is too little too late.
The city council is proposing to restrict the closure of traffic lanes on Bothar na dTreabh at the Newcastle Road Junction to between 10am and 4pm.
Fine Gael councillor Padraig Conneely says the response of the city council is "self-serving" and will have no impact on the gridlock experienced in the city since last week.
Mayor of Galway, Hildegarde Naughton will meet with Gardaí, City Manager Joe O'Neill and Director of Services for Transport Ciaran Hayes at 11 o'clock this morning.
She's calling for a co-ordinated response to deal with the problem.
