CITY RUNS OUT OF MONEY FOR HOUSE ADJUSTMENTS FOR VULNERABLE
Galway city council has already run out of the 2013 fund for disabled and elderly people to make adjustments to help them continue living in their homes.
The government funding for this 'D-P-G' grant was cut back from 1 million euro to a quarter of a million this year
It was revealed at last night's city council meeting that the fund ran out at the end of March with 60 applications still to be processed and more coming in.
The fund covers adjustments such as chair lifts, walk in showers, railings and wheelchair access.
Councillors unanimously passed a motion calling on the government to provide money immediately for this fund in the city.
Labour Cllr Colette Connolly proposed the motion and said she has to make her own party, who are government partners, understand that this is a quality of life issue.
