The City Development Plan has been changed to allow part of Corrib Park be rezoned from Residential to Recreational Amenity land. Local residents will welcome the move, which will prevent houses from being built on part of a green space in Corrib Park. The variation to the City Development Plan was prompted by attempts by city officials last April to build 3 houses on the land. At last night's City council meeting, councillors voted by 12 to 1 to rezone .29 of an acre of land in support of the residents. City manager Joe McGrath and Director of Housing Joe O'Neill were against the rezoning, claiming it would reduce the residential land bank available to the council to meet the needs of people on the Housing waiting list.
