CITY MEDICAL FIRM SEEKS 20 VOLUNTARY REDUNDANCIES

City medical firm Beckman Coulter is to seek up to 20 voluntary redundancies between its Galway and Clare plants.
The company which employs 190 staff in its Mervue Business Park and a further 180 in Clare was acquired by Washington based technology leader Danaher last July.
The medical diagnostic kit manufacturer has been in operation in the city for 35 years.
A review is currently ongoing to examine whether to continue with both Irish plants, select one operation or to merge both to a greenfield site.
SIPTU met with Galway and Clare Beckman Coulter employees yesterday.
Speaking to Galway Bay FM news, SIPTU's Michael Kilcoyne says the company is committed to its future in the West of Ireland.
