Ballinasloe, Loughrea and Tuam Town Councils are to be axed under a new cost-cutting action plan unveiled by Environment Minister Phil Hogan today.

The plan entitled "Putting People First" will also see City and County Councils merged in certain areas, however Galway is to maintain it's city and county structures.

City Manager Joe O'Neill says this is the best decision for the city as it needs its own local government.
