City manager denies large scale sale of Shantalla park

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A vote will be held at Monday's city council meeting regarding the re-zoning of recreational-amenity lands at Shantalla.

An emergency public meeting will be held this evening to address the proposed sale of three-quarters of the Shantalla Community Park.

In a statement the city manager maintains there is no such proposal before the council and points out the residents were promised last month they will be consulted.

Spokesperson for Shantalla Residents Association, John McDonagh, says Shantalla residents already have very little recreational space.

Councillors and members of the public are invited to the meeting in St Joseph's Community Centre at 8 o'clock this evening.

City Councillor Collette Connolly says the City Manager has failed to acknowledge the work that has already gone in to the amenity.
