Galway city has moved up the ranks in the latest Irish Business Against Litter league m going from 31st place to 23rd.

The city is deemed ‘clean to European norms’ and the bus station has been given particular credit for cleanliness, by the IBAL judging panel.

The study notes the significant improvement in key tourist destinations such as Galway and Cork cities, however it says some of the routes by which they are accessed often let them down.

Nationally, 76 percent of towns and cities were deemed to be clean, a record percentage, with Cavan town topping the list.
