A city shop has got the go - ahead to operate as an off-licence despite the City Council being against the plan.

McGuires Daybreak at Raven Terrace in the city applied to city planners for permission for off-licence use at the shop.

City planners refused planning permission and McGuires then appealed to An Bord Pleanála, which has overturned the decision by the City Council.

The City Council refused permission for the off licence at Raven Terrace because it wanted to avoid the over-concentration of certain uses in the city centre.
