CITY COUNCIL DEFENDS PLANNING LAWS

Date Published: 13-Dec-2012
Galway City Council says in the enforcement of planning laws it is one of the most proactive authorities in the country.
It follows claims by An Taisce that the council is not fully enforcing planning regulations in key shopping streets.
The organisation has written to city council with a list of alleged unauthorised shop-front developments, and wants a full investigation carried out.
In a statement, city council says in referenence to issues raised by An Taisce it has pursued cases of unauthorised developments.
This has resulted in planning applications being lodged, unauthorised structures being removed and illegal uses being discontinued.
