Galway has one of the highest levels of child road deaths outside Dublin.

From 1997 to 2009, nearly six percent of all Irish children killed in road accidents were in Galway.

Fourteen children died in Galway following a road accident in the 12 year period until 2009.

The children ranged in age from zero to fourteen.

Only Dublin and Cork have a higher percentage of child road deaths during this time.

The research was released today by the Road Safety Authority and shows that 2 hundred and 46 children were killed on Irish roads from 1997 to 2009.

Since 1997 there has been a forty-five percent reduction in the number of children killed on Irish roads compared to 2009.
