CAMPAIGN FOR ORANMORE SCHOOL BUILDING INTENSIFIES

Date Published: 11-Jan-2013
The Principle of Gaelscoil de hÍde in Oranmore says the campaign to speed up the construction of a new school building is now gathering pace.
Around 180 parents, staff and TDs including Junior Minister for Trainin, Education and Skills Ciaran Cannon attended a meeting on the issue last night.
Almost 300 students and 20 staff at the primary school are housed in temporary accomodation with no playground space.
The Department of Education sanctioned a new building for the Gaelscoil in 2006, and the purchase of a site in the centre of Oranmore is almost complete.
Construction is set to begin in 2015, but Principle Máit O Brádaigh is among those calling for works to begin immediately, claiming the school is at crisis point.
