CALL TO LIFT ORDER PREVENTING FLOOD WORK IN ORANMORE

Date Published: 07-Aug-2012
Oranmore Cllr Jim Cuddy is calling for action on the lifting of an order which he says is preventing the continuation of vital flood works in the area.
The OPW is currently carrying out drainage works at Frenchfort in a bid to ensure flooding problems experienced in 2009 do not reoccur.
This would involve opening a channel from Frenchfort to the sea.
However, it's understood, an order from the National Parks and Wildlife Service has prevented machinery entering the area due to its SAC protected status.
The NPWS has been unavailable for comment to Galway Bay fm when contacted on the matter.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Cllr Cuddy says a common sense approach is now needed.
