Galway County Councillors unanimously agreed this week to call on Transport Minister Leo Varadkar to re-instate the Local Improvement Roads Scheme.

The motion was tabled by Councillor Jim Cuddy.

The Local Improvement Scheme was generally used for smaller townland roads; local people usually put up 10% of the money and the County Council paid the remainder of the costs.

The Department of Transport discontinued funding the scheme this year.
