There's a call for Galway Gardai and Local Authorities to be given increased powers to remove horses from public greens, housing estates and residential areas.

Galway City Councillor Terry O'Flaherty is urging the Minister for Agriculture to give additional powers to Gardai and local authorities on the issue of horses.

She has tabled a motion on the agenda for Monday's City Council meeting and is seeking the backing of her fellow councillors.

Councillor O'Flaherty says horses in public areas are a danger to children.
