The Government is being called upon to release money to Galway City and County Councils to reduce the housing waiting lists.Galway West TD Padraic McCormack is urging the Government to give money to the local authorities as a solution to the housing crisis in Galway. In the city, there are over 2000 people on the social and affordable housing waiting list. While in the county, there are 1,800 people on the social housing waiting list, and 550 people on the affordable housing waiting list.Deputy McCormack says at the current rate of allocating housing, it will take at least 15 years to clear the current waiting list in the city, and up to 20 years in the county. He says the housing problem could be solved faster if City and County Councils were given money immediately.
