CALL FOR FERTILISER SPREADING EXTENSION FOR FARMERS

A Galway Senator is calling for a deadline extension for farmers to spread fertiliser.

Labour Senator Lorraine Higgins is urging Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan to extend the period of spreading fertiliser and chemical feed by 1 month.

She says by increasing the deadline from September 1st to September 30th, it'll allow farmers to grow a crop of silage.

Senator Higgins says this allowance needs to be made for farmers following a summer of very heavy rainfall
