CALL FOR CLAMP DOWN ON HEROIN USE IN CITY

Date Published: 04-Oct-2011
A city councillor is calling on the gardaí to clamp-down on, what he says, is the free sale of heroin in parts of the city.
Councillor Frank Fahey told this week's meeting of the Joint Policing Committee that he has heard reports that the drug is being distributed without charge in certain parts of Galway.
Figures provided by Gardaí show that 10 thousand euro worth of heroin has been seized in the first eight months of this year.
Chief Superintendent, Donal O'Cualáin said that he wasn't aware of specific incidences, but it's top of his agenda that heroin does not become a problem in Galway.
