Agri-fuel guidelines must be radically reviewed to tackle the level of laundered fuel entering Galway from border counties.

That's according to North West MEP Jim Higgins who is calling for a government clamp down on the illegal activity.

Last year, nine oil laudering plants were detected around the country and over 317 thousand litres of fuel.

This included one national operation in September last year where over 6 thousand litres of fuel were seized in the Loughrea area.

MEP Higgins says although it may be considered a border county problem, the illegal products are being transported to Galway and beyond.
