Clarinbridge singer and actor John Gaughan, a frequent performer in Galway has teamed up with bin men Parisch and Oisin Browne to record a pop single That’s What You Do, which will be released this Friday, October 1, with all proceeds and royalties going to CD’s Helping Hands Children’s Cancer Charity.

John, who did his Junior Cert this year, is currently on stage in the Druid’s production of Sean O’Casey’s The Silver Tassie. In 2008, he drew huge praise from X Factor judge, Louis Walsh, Grease star Susan McFadden and 2FM DJ Cormac Battle when took top prize in the RTÉ Talent Competition, ICE Star Search.

Parisch and Oisin, who work for The City Bin Company, came up with this song six months ago when trying to find a practical way to help CD’s Helping Hands. It was recorded on Oisin’s eight-track home studio.

“We sat down to write a song about a serious topic but one that was also uplifting and with a positive message,” says Oisin. “It took a few attempts to get it right but I think we nailed it”.

The brothers are not singing on the song, feeling that John’s voice is perfect on its own.

These ambitious bin men plan to get the song to number one in the charts and to donate the proceeds to their favourite charity. The lads are asking people to download the single from iTunes or by texting music 6260 to 57501 to buy from downloadmusic.ie. You can also buy it in HMV and Zhivago Records in Galway. The guys have set up a page ‘Get John to Number 1’ on Facebook and are getting a great response.

CD’s Helping Hands provides practical support to the families of children with cancer. Sometimes these children and their parents or guardians have to spend time in hospital and the charity ensures that the needs of other siblings are not forgotten.

That’s What you Do is being launched this Saturday downstairs in the Cellar Bar, Eglinton Street, Galway City. Admission is free and all are welcome to the event.
