Barna school to build autism unit
Galway Bay fm newsroom - A school near Barna is to build a unit to provide specialised education for autistic children.
Scoil Naomh Sheosaimh on the Rahoon road has been granted planning permission to build the ASD unit, as well as additional classrooms and resource rooms.
There are currently over 120 pupils at the school and its predicted that student numbers will increase to over 205 in 2015/2016.
The school made the application due to an increase in student numbers and the need to provide suitable accommodation for autistic children.
Funding has already been allocated for the ASD unit, and construction will take place on a phased basis.
Principal Damien O' Keefe says the planning approval is good news for the school..
