Athenry trad singer Tim Lyons is suing historian Diarmuid Ferriter for his alleged depiction as an alcoholic in the academic's book.

The Irish Independent reports that Mr Lyons claims a photo depicts him as an alcoholic on the cover of the book entitled "A Nation of Extremes - The Pioneers in Twentieth Century Ireland".

At Ennis Circuit Court yesterday, a judge dismissed Diarmuid Ferriter's application to strike out the proceedings being brought by Tim Lyons.
