Athenry creche get go-ahead despite objection

Galway Bay fm newroom - Plans for a creche beside a filling station in Athenry have been aproved despite objections. An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission to Cloonan Petroleum Limited to change the use of retail units at Caheroyn [Caher-Ryan] Road into a creche. A creche owner at Caheroyn Avenue in Athenry objected to the grant of approval to Cloonan Petroleum Limited for the childcare facility. She argued that Athenry is already oversupplied with childcare facilities, with 10 creches serving 5 thousand people. She also argued that there wouldn't be adequate parking provision at the site and that the emissions from the petrol station would make the creche unsuitable for childcare. However An Bord Pleanála ruled that the creche in Athenry can be built with 7 conditions attached, despite its own inspector recommending it be refused. The Board decided that the new development would not injure the setting of nearby Athenry Castle and would not be prejudicial to public health. It stipulates that the car park area must be reduced to provide no more than 12 spaces and the fencing behind the children's play area be reduced in height.
