Arts feud continues

The Galway Arts Festival has rejected proposals to work with Project 06 during a meeting chaired by Galway City Council which failed to break the impasse between the sides. The City Council’s Director of Services, Tom Hernon had separate meetings with Festival, Project and Macnas representatives throughout the day before chairing a roundtable discussion between the groups at 5pm yesterday. The meeting was set up after a number of councillors expressed concern that the local artists behind the project were to be excluded from the festival despite the council awarding additional funding of €85,000 after it lost out on Diageo’s sponsorship worth €190,000.
