The Dept of Defence has denied that it's fence has blocked the access to Deadman's beach in the Renmore near Dún Uí Mhaoiliosa

Local residents have been contacting Galway Bay fm all day today saying the fence is blocking access to this section of beach

In a statement issued to FYI Galway this evening the Dept says the timber post and rail fence replaces a similar fence in the area of Cromwell's Fort to the South-West of Renmore Barracks

It goes on to say the fence, which is the 3rd phase of a boundary reinstatement project at Dún Uí Mhaoiliosa, does not impinge or block any existing rights of way.

It also states gates in the fence allow Defence Forces personnel access to Dept of Defence lands which extend to the shoreline.
