ANGER OVER SHANTALLA PARK REZONING PROPOSAL

A city councillor has hit out at plans by the City Manager to rezone one and a half acres of Shantalla Neighbourhood Park to allow a private developer build a health care community centre.

Cllr Colette Connolly claims Joe O'Neill is pushing for the city council to hand over recreational and amenity land to a private company, which will then lease the centre back to the HSE.

Cllr Connolly says the real reason is the fact that the Browne roundabout is to be replaced by a signalised junction, which will close off the existing entrance to the hospital at the Corrib Park roundabout.
