AN TAISCE CLAIMS CITY COUNCIL NOT FULLY ENFORCING PLANNING REGULATION

Date Published: 13-Dec-2012
An Taisce claims Galway City Council is not fully enforcing planning regulations in key shopping streets.
Chairman of An Taisce's Galway membership Derrick Hambleton says some traditional shopfronts are being ripped out He says in some cases permission is given for timber replacement shopfronts which are then being replaced with cheaper substitutes.
The matter was raised at this week's meeting of Galway City Council's strategic policy committee on planning and economic development.
An Taisce has already written to city council with a list of unauthorised shop-front developments, and wants a full investigation carried out.
Derrick Hambleton says the city council needs to review its planning enforcement.
