ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT KEY TO CITY'S TRAFFIC PROBLEMS

The local authorities must consult more with public and private transport firms if they're to solve the city's traffic problem.
That's the view of County councillor Mary Hoade who today chaired the first joint meeting of Galway City and County councils policing committee. (Mon 7/11)
It was the first time the county councillors were briefed on the 6 million euro N6 upgrade plan for the city roundabouts.
Joe Tansey of the City Transportation Unit said 'Park 'n' Rides' were one of the few realistic options to help commuters but admitted they were operating at a loss of 100 thousand euro each Christmas.
Cllr Hoade told Galway Bay FM local authorities must have greater consultation with Bus Eireann and private transport providers if they're to reduce the gridlock
