AIB bank has today announced that it's to close its branches in Portumna and Carraroe as part of nationwide restructuring plans.

The cost saving programme will see the two Galway branches close their doors from October this year.

Following a review at the bank the decision for the closure was taken in response to a fall in demand for branch services.

AIB officials maintain that services to their customers in the Portumna and Carraroe areas will not be affected as Post Offices will take on additional services including facilities to lodge cheques and moblie banks will be in operation.
