A Ballinasloe native has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for his part in the robbery of a pensioner at his home near Ballygar 6 years ago.

The elderly widower now spends every day at his local Garda Station for company after he was tied up, beaten and robbed by a gang at his isolated farmhouse in September 2006.

32 year old Darren Finnerty, a native of Ballinasloe, with a rental address at Cummer, Tuam, appeared at Galway Circuit Criminal Court this week.
