55 REGISTER FOR BODY DONATIONS AT NUIG

Date Published: 12-Mar-2012
55 people have registered to donate their bodies to NUI Galway for teaching and research over the last two years.
20 people have signed up so far this year and a further 35 offered their bodies to the anatomy department in 2011.
15 bodies were received for teaching and anatomical research in 2009, 21 in 2010 and a further 12 last year.
An annual memorial service is held at the university for all those who have donated their bodies.
Alexander Black of the NUIG Anatomy Department says there is no problem with the number of bodies being donated despite reported appeals for cadavers in other third level institutes around the country.
