43 Galway householders sought help last year after being illegally evicted.

That's according to figures compiled in Threshold's annual report for 2011.

The Galway branch of the not-for-profit housing organisation also assisted 233 households, including 153 people who had been issued with invalid notice of termination.

Advisors also came to the assistance of 37 households threatened with illegal eviction from rented properties.

Through negotiation, 32 such evictions were prevented and 133 tenants were reissued with the appropriate notice or had it withdrawn.

The Galway advice centre also worked to support 237 older people with a housing difficulty last year.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Deirdre Murphy, Manager of the Galway Threshold branch says illegal evictions are becoming a growing problem here
