30 GATHER IN CITY PROTEST OVER WINDFARM DEVELOPMENTS IN CONNEMARA

Date Published: 26-Nov-2012
Over 30 people are demonstrating outside county buildings this lunchtime over the construction of windfarms in Connemara.
The group, which includes residents from areas such as Moycullen, Spiddal, Furbo and Barna, claims that to date 108 wind turbines have been granted permission in an 8 kilometre radius of Moycullen, most of which are 120 metres tall.
Bearing placards saying 'protect our beautiful landscape' and 'council in breach of EU directives', they're hoping to meet with councillors ahead of this afternoons meeting of the local authority.
Five Gardai are also maintaining a presence at the protest in Prospect Hill.
