Six popular ready meals have been recalled in Ireland due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued two separate food alerts on Friday, September 18, covering a number of prepared chicken meals.

Consumers have been warned not to eat any of the affected batches, while retailers have been instructed to remove them from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

This recall includes Kilbride Classic Cuisine Roast Chicken & Gravy Dinner, in 750g packs, as well as 750g Roast Chicken & Gravy Dinners which state “Produced by: Kilbride Classic Cuisine” on the back label.

The affected Kilbride Classic Cuisine products have use-by dates of September 19, 20, 21, 24, 25 and 26.

The FSAI said the products are being recalled due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms of a Listeria monocytogenes infection in healthy people can include mild flu-like symptoms as well as gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

However, in some cases the infection can become more severe and result in serious complications.

Those particularly vulnerable to Listeria infection include pregnant women, infants, older people and people with weakened immune systems.

According to the FSAI, the incubation period, the time between infection and the first symptoms appearing, is three weeks on average, but can range from three to 70 days.

Consumers are being advised not to eat any of the implicated batches.

Retailers have also been asked to remove the affected products from sale and display recall notices, while wholesalers and distributors have been instructed to contact affected customers and recall the implicated batches.
