Almost €19m in Galway property sales in one month

There was a time when the month of August was traditionally a quiet period for property agents in Galway, as potential buyers saddled up for the Races or for an overseas break before the new school year.
Not so anymore, as Tribune Property’s ongoing analysis of the Government’s Property Price Register shows.
This regular new feature in your Tribune – which began last month – found that a total of 105 residential properties were sold in the city and county during August. That represents sales worth more than €18.6 million.
Despite the high level of activity in the market, those figures are actually down (by around one-fifth) on August of last year, when 131 properties were sold, worth a combined total of almost €22.7m.
The biggest sale recorded in August of this year was for a five-bed detached house in the sought-after Rockbarton Park area of Salthill. It had an asking price of €540,000 and sold for €615,000.
The figures published here use data scraped from the Property Price Register and are modified to include (where available) a brief description of the property and the initial asking price.
In a small number of transactions included in the Register, the price shown does not represent the full market price of the property concerned for a variety of reasons. All such properties are marked with asterisks.
For example, the price declared may reflect the retention of an interest in the property by the previous owner, or the fact that a part or fraction only of the property is being purchased; alternatively, the property may have been purchased at a reduced price under the Affordable Homes Scheme.
In addition, in a very small number of cases, properties may be declared as purchased in exchange for other property, stocks and shares, etc.
If the property is a new property, the price shown is exclusive of VAT at 13.5%
