Michael Diskin was a major figure on the local arts scene for two decades until his untimely death two years ago. He worked with Galway Arts Festival, Galway Arts Centre and latterly as manager of the city’s Town Hall Theatre, a position he held at the time of his death.

Mike’s legacy will be remembered on March 30 when a host of Galway artists will gather at the Town Hall for an evening of music and entertainment.

The line-up includes the Cabin Collective, Little John Nee, Mephisto Theatre Company, Rod Goodall and Macnas. Also featuring are We Banjo 3, My Fellow Sponges, Amazing Apples and Mikey and The Scallywags. Traditional music group, The Birthday Band – featuring Alan Kelly, Seán Smyth, Kevin Haugh and Charlie Lennon, complete the line-up.

All proceeds from the event will go towards forming a Michael Diskin Arts Bursary for innovative arts projects. This will be awarded to an artist, musician or theatre company in the West of Ireland later this year.

Michael was a champion of original and innovative ideas that emerged from arts groups and individuals who might not have been as structurally well-supported as more established local names.

Applications for the bursary will be sought in the coming months and the winner will be selected by independent adjudicators. It is hoped that the bursary will be awarded on an annual basis.

• Tickets for the Concert for Mike on 30 March are €18 and are available from tht.ie, 091 569777 or at the venue.
