Trumpeter Paul Kiernan and fiddle player Danny Diamond will join Galway’s ConTempo Quartet this Saturday morning at 11am in Galway City Museum for a free concert featuring an eclectic mix of classical, contemporary and traditional Irish music

This is the second in the Spring series of The Galway Music Residency’s popular 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music with ConTempo and Friends, which is presented in association with the Museum.

Paul Kiernan has performed and toured with many ensembles, including the Cross Border Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and the European Youth Orchestra. He began playing trumpet with the Mullingar Town Band, transferring to DIT Conservatory of Music aged 14.  A founding member of the Booka Brass Band, he has performed at Glastonbury and in numerous sell-out performances in Ireland.

Danny Diamond blends traditional music with new compositions to create a unique sound, one rooted in the rich heritage of Irish traditional music, but incorporating wider influences from Nordic and American folk music.  Dublin-based Danny plays with the contemporary Nordic/Irish band Slow Moving Clouds and Irish traditional band Mórga.  His 2014 debut solo album, Fiddle Music, was widely acclaimed by critics.

■ This Saturday’s concert is a family-friendly event and it is free. It begins at 11am in the Museum and all are welcome.
