Resurgam Choir will be in concert in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church this Sunday, February 27, at 5pm with A Songbook of the Spirit. It’s in collaboration with the Limerick-based Early Music organisation, HIPSTER Ireland (Historically Informed Performance Series, Teaching, Education, and Research).

A Songbook of the Spirit will feature settings of the psalms by two monumental 17th century composers, Claudio Monteverdi and Heinrich Schütz. Excerpts from Monteverdi's Selva Morale e Spirituale (1641) and from Schütz's Symphoniarum sacrarum tertia pars (1650), will be performed alongside instrumental sonatas by Monteverdi's contemporaries.

This is the first concert in Resurgam’s current Abendmusik (Evening Music) series and it opens a fresh chapter for the group, according to its new general manager Vlad Smishkewych.

“In this first Abendmusik concert of 2022, Resurgam joins forces with two new musical partners from Limerick. Our new partner choir Sagittarius  Hiberniensis, under the direction of St Mary's Cathedral organist Peter Barley, returns after  having performed a memorable concert with us in November.

“Limerick's new brasswinds chamber group, the Thomond Ensemble, under the direction of Andrew Jordan, is our newest partner, and we look forward to further collaborations with this talented group of professionals as they explore early repertoire, historically informed performance, and early brasswinds.”

Sunday’s performance of A Songbook of the Sprit in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church will be the second of two concerts this weekend. The first is in Limerick’s St Mary’s Cathedral this Saturday. The concerts are benefits for Limerick’s Early Music festival, At Home and Abroad,, of which Vlad is  co-director.

Tickets, at €15, are available from www.resurgam.ie and at: bit.ly/resurgam01.
