There’s an exciting gig coming up in Galway City on Wednesday, August 15, when Joan As Police Woman comes to the Róisín Dubh. The American songwriter released her sixth album Damn Devotion this year, a soulful collection which brings the work of Al Green and Prince to mind. Joan Wasser has been a working musician since the age of 18, when she studied Fine Arts at Boston University. She played with the university’s symphony orchestra but ultimately decided against pursuing a career as a classical musician. She has used her violin skills to tour with artists like Rufus Wainwright and Antony & The Johnsons, but it’s with Joan As Policewoman that Wasser has found her true voice. She released her solo debut in 2006 and has toured and been a critic’s favourite since then.
