Service captures Christmas spirit

There was standing room only at the Annual Civic Carol Service in the City’s St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church on Sunday evening, when a moving and often rapturous celebration of the Nativity in prayers, readings and carols took place .
The traditional service of nine lessons and carols also included a special blessing of the whole city.
It was attended by the Mayor and City Councillors as well as by Right Reverend Patrick Rooke, Bishop of Tuam and the Diocesan Administrator, Canon Michael McLoughlin, and by representatives of all the main churches in the city.
A memorable and enjoyable festive celebration was led by the various choirs of St Nicholas under the masterful direction of Mark Duley. Singers included the young choristers of the Schola Cantorum, the Choral Scholars and the Parish Choir.
This concert has traditionally marked the real beginning of Christmas for many Galwegians and this year was no exception.
