In the last month, Irish duo Gemma Doherty and Morgan MacIntyre have toured North America, headlined the Olympia Theatre and released their debut, twelve-track album Shape of Science. This Friday, Saint Sister play Galway’s Róisín Dubh.

The two are regularly described as an ‘atmosfolk’ act – blending delicate, harmonic vocals and plucked harp strings with the electronic addition of a piano-based synthesiser.

The result is ethereal – Saint Sister write dreamy songs that somehow sound both eerie and reassuring.

After the success of their four-track Madrid EP in 2015, Doherty and MacIntyre have embarked on extended periods of successful touring throughout Ireland, Europe and North America.

Respect and admiration for the pair seems to exist among fellow artists as much as it does fans – supporting roles for Hozier and Lisa Hannigan have showcased Saint Sister in to wider audiences in major venues.

Given their steady rise in popularity – and on the back of a highly acclaimed first record – chances to see Saint Sister perform in intimate venues like the Róisín Dubh are unlikely to keep coming around very often. Friday’s gig is well worth attending.

Saint Sister perform in the Róisín Dubh this Friday. Tickets €22.50/20, doors at 8pm.
