Dancer and choreographer Kristynn Fontanella, theatre-maker and creative producer SJ Woods, and contemporary dance artist Fionnuala Doyle Wade have been selected to take part in Remote Control, an artist-development scheme set up by Brú Theatre Company with Galway Town Hall Theatre and Galway Dance Project

This three-month residency will run from now until August, explains James Riordan of Brú, who is currently Theatre Artist in Residence with the Town Hall Theatre.

“The focus of the project is not necessarily to produce finished pieces, but to find new ways to engage with audiences, to develop practice, and to explore new ideas,” says James, praising the quality of applications received from artists throughout Galway.

“Remote Control has been designed to be adaptable and responsive to the challenging situation which the arts and culture sector finds itself in due to the Covid-19 crisis,” he adds.

The three artists, who are all based locally, will each receive €1,500, as well as in-house workshops, and remote mentorships with established practitioners.

The mentors include Louise Lowe of Anú Productions and dancer and choreographer Oona Doherty.

For her project, Kristyn Fontanella wants to investigate new ways of integrating dance and theatre, especially comedic performances, into her creative practice.  She hopes to gather information and skills from theatre practitioners in other fields  and plans to adapt that knowledge into movement designed for a broad audience.
