Anyone who frequently enjoys live music in Monroe’s will recognise the name Rackhouse Pilfer. The six-piece “stompin’” Americana/bluegrass band from Sligo has been playing the venue at least once a month for the last year and a half.

“Galway is and has always been a great creative centre and musical centre. We’ve built up a loyal following in the city and we’ll continue to gig there regularly,” says Fiachra Cunningham who plays the fiddle, dobro and also sings for the band. His band mates agree that Galway is an excellent city for music: “Galway has always been known as a hot spot for music in Ireland and it’s great that we’re given the opportunity to plant our seed in the city. We already have a strong fan base in Galway but I guess we’re hoping to widen that over the next year,” adds double-bass player Hugh Feely. And Galway isn’t the only place they’ve planted their seed.Following the release of their debut album, Back to the Country, around this time last year, Rackhouse Pilfer took their electric and energetic stage show to some of Ireland’s biggest festivals and venues, including the world-famous Omagh Fold Park Bluegrass Festival, Monaghan Blues Festival, Body and Soul and Sligo Live, where they opened for headliner act Imelda May.
